Do You Suffer From Heel Pain?

You are not alone. Studies have shown that 40% of Americans experience heel pain more than any other foot ailment, and is one of the main reasons patients present to our office. There are many causes of heel pain including tendon problems, heel pad thinning and, the most common, plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the connective tissue that stretches from the base of the toes, across the arch of the foot, to the point at which it inserts into the heel bone. Also called "heel spur syndrome," the condition can usually be successfully treated with conservative measures such as the use of anti-inflammatory medications, ice packs, stretching exercises, orthotic devices (custom arch supports), and properly fitting shoes.

There are several reasons why this chronic injury can occur. Recent weight gain and increased activity level often start an episode. A change of shoes from well-supporting walking or athletic shoes to floppy sandals can contribute. When the arch of the foot collapses as is seen in someone with flat feet, the Plantar Fascia is stretched, causing an injury where it attaches to the heel bone. Finally, conditions which cause generalized increased inflammation like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis can cause this as well.

Because heel pain is such a common condition, we have created The Heel Pain Centers, a portion of our practice that is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of heel pain utilizing the most sophisticated diagnostic tools and most up to date and advanced treatment methods available. Our goal is your goal...finally eliminating your heel pain. Please visit our website, for additional information.

Ingrown Toenails

Do you know there is a simple office procedure that can stop ingrown nails...forever?

Ingrown nails are a very common problem we see in the office everyday. They are usually caused by a hereditary condition which causes the nails to continuously curve into the skin over time. Ingrown nails can also occur from improper cutting of the nails. This causes pain and swelling of the surrounding skin which can lead to a more serious infection. The procedure to treat this painful condition involves a simple office procedure done under local anesthesia. The ingrown portion of the nail and growth area are removed and a special chemical is applied to prevent the ingrown portion of the nail from re-growing. There is minimal, if any, post procedure discomfort, and most people return to regular shoes the following day.
